Seymour Main Street is excited to introduce the Seymour Junior Main Street program. This past weekend is the first weekend that the Seymour High School students were set up with a storefront in the downtown Community Center. They were open from 10-2 and they sold necklaces, tree ornaments, plants, vinyl clings and more!

The students were in charge of running the store, coming up with a logo, designing a flyer, a radio ad, picking the items to sell, and tracking the items sold and money intake.

This is a collaboration between Seymour Main Street and Seymour High School to teach students what it is like to be a future business owner and to get them excited about the downtown and involved in our community.

We have another store day scheduled for December 2nd from 10am - 2pm so mark your calendars for this great event.

We are really excited about this collaboration and feel like the sky is the limit for the students and us!

The selfie promotion went on during the Seymour Oktoberfest. We encouraged people to shop in our downtown stores and take a selfie at a local business and then post the photo on social media with the hashtag #SeyOfestWin17. We had a ton of entries and it was a lot of fun!

Susan Suits she was the winner of the Seymour Main Street Selfie contest and she won a $100 dollar gift certificate to the Lea Boutique.

Downtown Seymour celebrated the end of summer with a Rock & Shop event on Chamber 1 Square!

Kiddos painted rocks and enjoyed an after school snack of yummy hot dogs and lemonade provided by the United Way.

If you find a painted rock post it on social media with the #jacksoncountyrocks hashtag.

New Downtown Mural

This mural was done by Southern Indiana Center for Arts (SICA) artist Darnell Dukes. She painted the mural in black and white and then each item was numbered, then the public was able to sign up for a time to come and paint one item on the mural. Kids and adults from all over the community had a hand in creating this fun and whimsical piece of art in the downtown. Be sure to check it out when you are out shopping, it is  on the backside of the Community Agency building in the downtown.

Cars and Guitars was a huge success this weekend in downtown Seymour. There were over 250 cars and people came from far and wide to check them out. The weather was beautiful and car enthusiasts were able to enjoy Miss Piggy’s Bar-B-Que,Cotton Candy and Shaved Ice as they strolled through to view all the makes and models. The Retro’s took the stage at 7pm and were a huge hit and everyone was able to dance the night away! A big thanks to the sponsors, Seymour Parks and Rec. and the City of Seymour, Graessle Mercer, and 96.3 WJAA.

All proceeds benefited  the Seymour Physically challenged playground.
